About Us
My name is Simone Leigh, the widow of Martin Leigh.
Let me tell you a little bit about our background. I met Martin in 1996 when I first came over to the Uk from Germany. He was a talented commercial photographer in a large Manchester studio where I happened to do some work experience as an interior stylist. Soon after I worked with him in his studio space, which he ran within the company Martin shot for multiple clients and tutored photographic assistants to become professional photographers themselves. Later he was proudly accepted by Getty Images and Image Source with both commercial photography and fine art.
We carried on working together through out his life as photographer and stylist team but also going on every photoshoot together for his art and commercial photography, creating shots and inspire each other, a creative partnership for 27 years.
Martin was also an incredibly talented fine artist, studying art at John Rigby College in Wigan. From an early age he was very creative and in tune with nature, especially the sea, which is reflected in his art. Whilst being a professional commercial photographer he also had a passion for art photography, he loved his dark room and printed b/w himself. Some of the photographic art images here are hand printed, hand tinted and digitalised by himself.
Throughout his career and in our personal life together he created beautiful art works with exhibitions in the UK and overseas, most recently a solo exhibition in Jersey which I organised to celebrate his art in his honour.
These are Martins own words how he described his art.
"I have always had a deep fascination with the open shoreline, its natural and manmade architecture, the seasonal changes of its inhabitants along with the unpredictability of its ever changing moods. Also its mere nature of is continually evocative and creator of many imagined places to explore.
With both mediums photography and fine art, I endeavour to observe and create with freedom. Technical restrictions become secondary as I feel an image needs no calculation only an innermost thought; many of the images I observe and record need no more detail as to what the subjects actually are."
Being a true artist though doesn't come without its battles, which he incorporated in his art, there is a depth and complexity which is undeniable.
After Martin sadly passed away in 2023 and after needing time to coming to terms with it, it is my mission now to show Martins beautiful art again as I feel it deserves to be seen: in your home, in an office space, hotel lobby or anywhere where Martin's art can be experienced to its fullest
Thank you for your time and support - it means a great deal.
Warm regards
Simone
